    intermittent speedo

Hi from Australia, I own a 1998 CD Astra and just this week the speedo has decided to intermittently stop showing speed and distance.

Also the Cruise Control also ceases to operate.
After IU swithxch off and restart the speedo resumes operation - Any idea oh wide UK owners?

BTW I Also own a 2002 Astra Cabriolet - best 4cyl car i have ever owned

If i remember rightly, doesn't the speedo run from teh ABS sensor in the hub?

I will get my electrical system looked at as occasionally on very hot day [yes we have extrememly hot days here - yesterday the temperature was 39 celcius] the airconditioning ceases to operate. Also the car is not 5 years old and still on original battery. Could that be the issue - a failing battery?

mine used to do this, turned out to be a faulty wheel sensor/hub
have you had the TC or ABS lights come on and stay on?

Check where the speedo signal comes from, it is usually a gearbox transducer, rather than the wheel hub, as not all cars come with ABS etc, but they all come with speedos (at least in the UK! Dunno about you mad Aussies )

I've seen a couple of cars with duff gearbox transducers, faults ranging from worn drive pinions causing erratic readings to oil ingress into the pulse generator shorting out the electrics and blowing the fuse for the dash instruments
