    1. Vauxhall 5w40 or 10w40, fully synthetic is pretty good.
    2. Take it to a garage - or use a drip tray. Don't lie underneath the drainage plug !
    3. In the region of 4-5 litres I would imagine.

    cheers buddy,

how about castrol GTX 10w40 ?? or magnatec ?

iv'e got a drip tray, so what do i do ?? jack the front up, put tray under sump plug, open the filler cap and just unscrew the sump plug ??

wait till its empty, put the plug back in, car back on the deck and pour new oil in ? or is there anything else i should do ?

Any decent oil is ok. I would always favour fully synthetic, but you could go for semi-synth. 10w40 magnatec or similar is fine.

Go through your steps, and include a filter change. Fill the new filter up with oil first, before putting it on, and dip your finger in the new oil and run it around the new filters seal. Do it up. Put the plug back in and refill. Leave it for a while, check levels and top up accordingly.

The only thing you have to check is make sure the car is on a fairly level ground, or this may throw the levels out.

need new sump bung washer, and only use gen oil filter as they are so cheap.

only need semi syn for your car, fully will be a waste of time and the engine might rattle a little more.

Like Nrj says semi synthetic is what is needed, esp in a 1.4. I have only ever used it myself on every Vx i have owned.

    Hello,

I was thinking of using fully synthetic on my 1.6 16v...
Do you reckon I should also stay on the semi-synthetic?

    Cheers,

yep, fully is like water and only really for turbo's and top engine engines, the 1.6 16v is fine on semi, its what vxl use.

anyway, just a few questions @ Nrj or anyone else that knows their stuff.

    1. so will Castrol Gtx be ok ? and what weight do i need ? 10w40 ?
    2. oil filter - halfords, vaux, motorworld ??
    3. sump plug washer ? is that like a fibre sealing washer or summot ? where can i get one from and any idea on the sizes ?

and any part numbers for the filter and sump plug washer will be handy.

Genuine Vxl parts r cheaper than anywhere else so go there,

Yesterday I bought 2 gen filters/bung washers for £3.10(traade club), retail is only £4 for an oil filter anyway.

    The washer is copper

Just go into vxl with your engine type (ie C18XEL for me), and they will do the rest.
