Is the dealer being straight with me....?

    Hello everyone.

I was looking for information as to whether i could disable the passenger airbag as we have a little one now, so i went to my local Vauxhall dealer who explained to me that my insurance on the car would be void if i tampered with the airbags and that the only solution was to buy one of their seats that was fitted with a transponder which would only work if my car had been fitted with one also.

So after contacting Vauxhall head office i found out it was so i phoned the garage to get a price on the seat....! One hundred and bloody twenty quid....! and the styles of them ain't that nice either.

So my main question is can i manually disable the airbag or are Vauxhall looking to make a few quid....?

    Hello mate,

Not sure on the answer to your question, but all I would say - is it really worth it to compromise the safety of your little one or any other passenger riding in the front when the seat is not in?

I'm sure there is a way of disconnecting the airbag...someone on here will know.

    just my 2cents.

Thw wife needs the little one in the front as she can't see him in the back, and all this transponder does is deactivate the passenger airbag, so even if it was done manually i don't see how it would affect their safety...? As a child seat shouldn't be put in the front of any car with an enabled airbag

Maybe it would be cheeper to put both your wife and the baby in the back? Otherwise looks like £120 buddy.

Just another thought, What about the seat belt pre tensioners. The ones that fire in the event of a crash and pull the seatbelt tight.? You will have to have those sorted out aswell. The transponder is really starting to look like the best option im affraid
