    My noise is getting louder

Well my rattling noise seams to be getting worse

there has been a few posts on this site that sound like the same problem as mine but knowbody has yet to come up with an answer.

my car is starting to sound like a deisel when started up from cold and its getting embarassing as people are telling me that it sounds awful

not looking forward to the bill from vauxhall once i book it in it sounds expensive.

any last ideas what it could be

is it mis-firing? as if its running on 3 cylinders it'l sound like a diesel, or it could be your cam belt, mine done this before i got it changed

its not miss-firring had my cam belt changed at 40k and only just past 54k now.

someone at work has just had a look and thinks it could be the exaust manifould because thats the area its coming from, he has said that because its heating up it expands so closes the seal ( around the gasket i assume) thats why its only last ing for about a minute while its cold

    what do u think

How would you best decribe the noise?
and what engine is in your car (yes.....i'm a Vxll virgin)

There is almost no chance on earth that it's a dirty carb, as the're not fitted anymore In these days of Multi point injection.

Has the noise always been there, or has it just come in the last few days/weeks?

    my car is a 2.0ltr 16v sri

the noise originaly started of as a clicking noise as though someone was holding a ruler in the fan, but now it is starting to sound more like a blowing noise its actually quiet hard to describe.

You could try and checking the oil, even change it to see if it makes a difference.

Hmmm, it does sound like it could be a leaking exhaust manifold gasket or a manifold to downpipe gasket.

does the car drive any differently during the warm up phase when you hear the noise?

    has it always done it?

if it goes when warmed up, i'd suggest removing the heat shields when it's cold and then start the car. Any blowing will be felt if you run your hand around the area,or you'll see black carbon deposits where the leak is.

It must be sealing up quite well though at the moment when it's warm, otherwise i'm sure you'd feel the way the car drives change due to clean air being allowed into the exhaust stream which in turn will upset the lambda sensor reading.

Also as said above....oil circulation to the hydraulic tappets (if this engine has em) could be a cause.
