Petrol Engine begining to sound like diesel!

got a 1.6 16v g, its nearly done 50,000 miles but l8ly its started to sound a bit like a diesel engine, :?
spoke to a bloke from vauxhall, he said i should get the cam belt changed? (said they should be done every 40000)
could it be ne thing els?

thort it could be the fan belt, noise seemed to be comming from there.

make sure they change the water pump as well

is the noise on start up? is it still there when the engine has been running for a while?

Yep every 40.000 miles for a cambelt, and would advise to go for the tensioner and rollers aswell

I know this post was down about page six but thought I'd bring it up again as I've had a similar thing. Mine is when the car is under load on an incline, like in a carpark or slowly going up a hill. It would rattle a bit and sound kinda tinny, a bit like a deisel (No offence).
I had it looked at finally and what they thought might be an exhaust rattle turned out to be a tensioner rattle, requiring a new poly v belt tensioner at a total of NZ$676.58!!!!!

Don't know if this is the same problem or not but thought it might help all the same.
