    charge cooler/intercooler question

Is the main job of this ust to cool the temp of the air going into the engine?

If so then why have we not seen any on normal asprited cars? as mine runs alot better in the cold winter nights ect

can these be fitted to normal cars? and what sort of gain do you think would be had?

it cools the air down that has passed through the turbocharger. as the turbocharger gets hot it heats the air passed through it, so the intercooler cools that air back down.

In NA cars the induction temp is pretty much the temp the air is, and you can't cool it anymore than that . Plus if you put a heat exchanger in the induction path you will have a small loss of airflow. In turbo cars the temp of air coming out of the turbo can be as high as 130 degrees C.

The water temp in a charge cooler can't be cooled lower than the temp of the outside air, so it can't cool the induction temp of a NA anymore , so you will see no increase in power.
