    K&N question?

I fitted a K&N induction kit a while ago to my 2.0 mk4 and have a little question to ask:

when the car first starts up and is running cold the engine sounds like its ticking, not really the the sound I was hoping for. Its okay when its been running for a while, it sounds nice then, and when the revs are up but this ticking noise is begining to piss me off a little . Has anyone else come across this? and is there anything I can do about it without totally replacing (skint you see)?

    cheers guys.

If you stick your head under the bonnet, have a listen to the little widget which sits on top of the airbox. That is the valve which meters the fumes from the active carbon filter back into the intake and it usually does it when the engine is first started and idling

okay, does this mean this is a common problem? its not just when its started its until the engine is properly warmed up, its just sounds a bit crappy until its had a good run can it be sorted?

p.s I don't need to stick my head under the bonnet to hear it either......?

Your fuel injectors click when they squirt fuel.

When the engine is cold, they click more to put more fuel in.

It's just like engine's of old with carbs and a choke, with the choke out it runs more fuel.

As the clicking reduces when it gets warm, it becomes less noticeable (double click down to a single click).

As you have removed the std airbox, you hear noises more coming from the throttle body.

Nothing wrong with the car, just turn the stereo up more!
