What happen's when you install a new stereo... Wheel lights.

    Hi All,

Have just installed a new Pioneer DEH-P77MP, very nice it is too...

I got the steering wheel control interface with it (PI 806).

Anyway, the following things have happened.

    1) No lights on the Steering wheel buttons

    2) The track up and down wheel buttons both go "down" (suspect this is just one of those things with interfaces).

    3) Most importantly, the unit doesn't retain settings when the ignition key is removed. Is it to do with on of the wires in the connector not being right? I have to keep resetting the presets!!!

    Any help much appreciated

    Cheers, Adam

    3) switch the 2 power cables around at the back of the unit and your settings shouldnt disappear after you turn it off anymore

For the radio losing memory you need to swicth the two power wire as Dave says(Pins 4 and 7 of the A block on the ISO connector).

Anyway, the following things have happened.

    1) No lights on the Steering wheel buttons

    2) The track up and down wheel buttons both go "down" (suspect this is just one of those things with interfaces).
No, this is definatly not one of the things with interfaces. The interface should work correctly and I would hazard a guess that both 1 and 2 are related. So firstly Check that it is wired correctly, Secondly if it is I would say that the interface is not working correctly and you should take it back. I have not heard of many problems with the hardwired one like yours, well none TBH.

Cheers Basil / Dave, Sorted now - the red / yellow wires from the H/U have bullet connectors, which is dead handy, the yellow is marked battery and the red 'acc'.

And strange, the 'up' now works (I did nothing) I'm a bit buggered to take it back anyway, as the ISO blocks were individual (the VX one is a double), so after trying to carve it down, I took all the pins out and put it in an old double socket.

The wheel buttons are still dark. I reckon that feed is on the third VX block.

Having a great name doesn't make the lights come back, but then, I don't care...

the steeering wheel button lights are usually fed from the aerial or amp output from the stereo. This is the blue wire, probably labelled ext aerial. it switches +12v when the radio is on. most aftermarket stereos don't have it connected to the iso plug. I'm not sure what pin it should be connected to but can check for you

cheers Farmer - it's not connected to anything at the moment.

If you do connect it to the blue wire on the harness the date on the MFD goes out.

Would like my steering wheel lights back though
