    GSI v Golf R32

I had a little race with a Golf R32 this morning. He got a little p'd off because he could not shake me at all. He started pulling away from me off a roundabout but soon I was right behind him. We reached about 115 - 120 mph but started to hit traffic. If I was him I would be gutted I had paid approx 5 k more for the same performance.
Do you think there was a chance he could of done better but couldn't drive the car that well?

tundoM was correct, it's a completely standard GSI. I am beginning to think vx 2.0 turbos are a lot quicker than vx are stating. It was fun.

Right, I also have a modded GSi, and if matey was realy trying, and could drive he would have left you for dust, 4x4 and 240bhp, compared to your fwd and 200bhp (maybe more ) - he has no turbo lag, and better grip ! - I have no doubt the GSi is quick, however it is not R32 quick !

Ah, glad you put that because I checked the VW site this morning and thought what had happened might have been a bit impossible

You could beat a Ferrari in a Nova if the Ferrari wasn't trying ! - those golfs are mental fast, and make a gorgeous sound ! - a tad expensive IMO, and as low as 16mpg from a tank !!

    bhp 0-60 0-100 1/4 Mile 1/4 Mile Speed

    VW Golf R32 237 6.5 15.6 14.7 97

    Vauxhall Astra GSi 197 6.6 17.3 15.2 94

Seem's pretty close to me, althought the GSI is more likely to have 212bhp as std.

Up the boost on the GSI and it could be pretty even.

If Nikon's GSI has 260 bhp, I guess his should be quicker.

4x4 isn't always better, as they lose around 37% compared to the astra's 25%.

So this would make the R32 around 160 @ wheels and GSI (with 212bhp) 160bhp at the wheels.

My car is running back on standard chip now, due to problems with the last custom map - with the current mods I would imagine around 210-215bhp at the moment.

I would however point out that through the gears and along normal driving roads, the R32's torque would become more apparent.

would the r32 not lose some accelaration because of the 6 speed box and having to change gear an additional time or would that be marginal
