I'm curious on this too... my last G had one.

I reckon it slots in and clips, like the usual tray, but to get it out maybe the console has to come off?

Anyone out there know? Also did any model astra come with a blank panel there instead of the cd holder or tray?

I'm pretty sure you would have to remove the centre console to remove the CD tray. I'm not too sure myself of how to remove the centre console tho :P. On the models without the CD tray you get a space to put your stuff, like in the Cavalier and Calibras who didn't have the oil pressure and voltage gauges.

i think if you open the 4 trays at once then gently pull, the cd section bit comes out then you can pull the surround out easilly

Place a small flathead screwdriver at each top corner of the holder, gently prise down and it justs pops out. This is according to the instructions supplied with the unit when you buy one from VX.

They way I fount in getting the tray out was to take my head unit out pop my hand behind the dash and just gice the tray a little tug and it un clips and bobs you granny best mate it comes out. and you could get a bit of carbon fibre cut out to the sape of the hole and mount switches or dials into it.
