    Notchy Gearbox

    Astra MK4 2000 2.0 SRi

Is anyone else experiencing a notchy gearbox? for the past couple of months, the gearbox seems to clunk into gear, rather than a smooth gear change. It feels like playing a video game at the arcades When you put it into second, you need to put a bit more force into it, before the gear actually engages?? I have had the transmission oil changed, which I told may help, but it hasnt.

You reckon it could be my clutch?

    Please help

I've had this issue since my car was new - only when cold mind you...I wouldn't call it notchy, but kinda uncomfortable when changing down to second or into first when cold...

    Maybe it's common in Vx's?

when cold mine 'pops' out of 2nd (when moving to 3rd) rather than smoothly changing.

seems to be better after the 1st service it had.

also being gentle with the clutch on a cold morning seems to help

Ive heard similar reports loads of times. It seems to be a lack of grease on the gearbox linkage's and cables form the stick. Get on your back and grease it! Apparently there "supposed" to do this at each service. Thats why you may have noticed a diffrence after having one.
