    Hi there,

Recently put blue LEDs in my dash, great colour, but found them really dim, even in total darkness, they were the 5500 mcd frosted blue ones, so I don't think they're going to get any brighter.

Had the clocks out and have shone white, UV, clear blue and red, but only the red (12000 mcd), seem bright enough.

Had another idea - bulb paint, Halfrauds do red and blue foliatec paint and you get more light reaching the clocks. The blue is more of an aqua colour rather than deep blue (yellow filament + blue = green), but a lot brighter.

Anyone else done it this way or got pics of LEDs? Will try and post some soon.

I've got LEDs in my interior lights (check my ad in the Shop) but NOT in the dash. The dash needs even illumination, so LEDs don't do well. If you want blue lights, either buy the lacquer to paint the original bulbs or get the blue bulb covers

Agree there Steve, I made some panels of 6x white LEDs for the interior lights... if you get the savage Diffused LED replacement bulbs, the coloured plastic cap is great to use for mounting. Where do you get the bulb covers?

I may well be up for some of your footwell lights in white, are you still doing them?

I don't know where to host pics of the LED's my partner does but his turn out really nice...
    5500 mcd frosted blue ones
There's your problem, you need water clear ones and they must have a viewing angle of 30 degrees (+ or - a couple of degrees) or more to be of any use...

PM me if you want to try his ones, I'll see if he'll cut you a deal as a sort of trial..

He has over 100 green led's in his Cav, put 16 just in the courtesy light

Not a great solution, burns off far too easily and the bulbs go a manky yellow colour.

These work, but you don't get a very nice colour, just a kinda washed out effect.

    Hi Kirsty,

I bought a load of LEDs in - the clear blue ones are 6500 clear, with 30 degree angle, they give a very, smooth light. but the fitting in the dials only uses the light that goes sideways.

Maybe I'm just expecting too much... I might try and make ones with 2x 3mm leds pointing sideways, hmmmm!

Will wait to see if the lacquer burns off - I didn't paint the original ones, but replacements from Vaux...

In an astra?? Aren;t the astra light guides the same as the Cav ones??
You can get 2 x 5mm led's per holder if you modify the back of the clocks where they plug in.
Ian has put 4 x 3mm per holder in his Cav, bit temperemental (sp?) but a fair bit brighter (and the dimmer works too )
