    Poor Gearchange ??

    Guys and Gals

Does anyone know if all Astras are Cable gearchange, or is it just the LET models ??

It feels really bad compared to other cars, and I don't like the feedback from it at all !

Yep, driven 5/6 mk4's and it's the crap part, sometimes won't go into first, dip the clutch, then sweet.

Annoying as hell. A typical european car feature. Soggy mass market Jap boxes are much smoother.

I have read an article about this, in perticular the 2.2 box. The problem seems to be a lack of grease on the cables and linkages. If you get underneath with a tub of grease and give all the cables and joints a good going over, maybe work them back and forth a bit, it will or suposidly cures the problem.

Didn't realise it was all the range !

Quaife have said they can change the linkage to 'semi' rod shifting if I get them to put the new box and LSD in. Not sure if this will make much of a difference though ???

Well, unfort unless you lose the entire cable setup, you will still get the flimsiness in the gear stick..... a B&M short shifter (because it's all metal) may make it feel a little less plasticy and bendy, but ultimately, cables stretch.....
