    Ignition and Keyholders problem

    Hello,

    Just came back from Greece...
My brother drives a leased astra, and he was told by the leasing company to avoid using any keyholders with the ignition key. They have found that the extra weight of the keys screws the ignition mechanism on the steering wheel. So far It has happened to all their astras...
The first symptom is a slight difficulty when turning the ignition key. That becomes worse and the lock eventually fails.
Getting rid of the extra key / keyholder weight will help to get rid of the problem, as the lock gradually goes back to normal... It is recommended to use the spare key for a while... pretty weird...
Anyone here can confirm the symptom / problem?

    Ciao,
    Kakourdos

My car keys are on the same fob as my house keys, works keys and alarm keyfob for the Corsa and its key. They weight a fair bit and I have never had a problem

    Dunno M8,
I always use the key on it's own as I don't like to hear the other keys hitting the shrouding when goin over speed bumps etc

I've always assumed this to be an old wives tale, but then again I don't have a seriouly heavy set of key on my keyring, ergo never had a problem.

    re: Ignition and Keyholders problem

    I need to try this.

I've had a problem with my ignition lock where it is difficult to turn on and also when I remove the key the locking mechanism is still "Pressed In" making the car think the key is still in the ignition when it's not.

I've been meaning to get VX to look at the problem for a while but never got round to it.

I have quite a big bunch of keys and a few keyrings with the key so maybe I'll try using the spare on it's own and see if it improves for me.
