    Race :- who do you think will win . . . .

my cousin has just bought a calibra 2.0l 8v. on an m plate i think. its done about 70k, totally standard apart from 17's.

my question is, will i beat him in my g ??

    i've got a 1.4 i 16v g, lowered on 17's, runnin about 96 bhp. i think the calibra is 113bhp, but there a lot heavier than the g arnt they ?? 16vers pick up a lot quicker than 8vers dont they ?? but 8 v have more torque ?

just wondering if im gonna get wupped or not ??!!!

    wiggy.

Umm, I think the Cally will win!

8 Valves pick up far quicker than the 16 valvers, but you have higher mid range torque.

With regards weight, I think it would be fair to say that both cars weigh similar amounts.

It might be clos, but i think the Calibra will take it

    sorry!

sorry but i have to dissagree with that, from my experiance, 8v are slow off the line. my cuz has a Mk 3 golf 1.4i 8v, and i waste it off the line every time, and he's tried so hard to beat me and it never happens !! lol !!!

i think it's gonna be close, but then again he's only got about 20bhp on me n e way. i think the calibra will be a fair bit heavier than my g cause,
    1. it's a 2.0 so its a bigger block
    2. the car is quite a bit longer than my 5 door hatch
    3. everything about it looks big and clunky !!

he picks it up on wed, so we'll see !!!!

anyone else got any comments ???

on std figures 8v's are always quicker from the blocks, eg golf MK 2 GTI 8v is quicker than the 16v from the start, but slower mid range and top end!
i think once you get going he will pull away 10-40 mph, then once the 16v's start working then you should level him, then given that your car is newer i think you might get the upper hand!

depends whose got the most bottle/the better driver!

hazman: - yeah i think he'll pull away 10-35/40 but then i think i'll woop it to 90, cause mine is a lot newer, and im a lot better driver! (not one to blow my own trumpet) ! but over 90 i think he'll have the edge, umm im all excited now, i want to go race !!!! lol !! have to wait till he picks it up on wed !!

anyone know how the calibras handle ?? it's standard at the mo but i think hes gonna drop it 40 on the 17's.

will mine out handle it ?? lowered 40mm on g max springs, with 7/17's with 215/40/r17 falken tyres .

but vaux engines do tend to get quicker through age (if looked after)

Ask Nrj about that one. Most vaux enthusiasts would agree.

so its not lookin too hopefull for me then ?? i'll let you guys know on thurs. thats if he'll race me !!! he recons he's goin to powerflow and getting a de cat system an all sorts of shit done to it, so it all depends on if he'll race me before the mods. i'll lay down the gauntlet tonight with a few subtle comments like, my grandads 1.2 corsa will kick his arse and what you bought a 2.0 litre for and paying 2k insurance when my 1.4 ins group 4 astra will waste ya !!! lol, he swallw that hook . . . . . line . . . .and sinker . . . . i think it might be about an even race, we'll see .
