    2.2 vs 2.0 turbo

    Discss

I'm lookin at coupe's but can't decide on what engine to go for.

Now i've read the performance figures but what do you guys think?

Bare in mind i'm used to my 2.0 16v gsi so would a 2.2 feel slow?

Also resale value, seems to be loads of 2.2's, so do you think it will affect it when the time comes to sell or do you all think it's the 1.8's that might suffer more?

    No comparison mate, turbo everytime!!

147bhp versus 200bhp (GSi) or 192 (coupe, SRi Turbo).....Its an easy decision to make!!!

And there isnt that much tuning gear around for the 2.2 at the moment

I'm with LA on this one.

Why bother with resale value, you will keep it 5+ years, the 'I' will be seen in prototype form and the G will be worth jacks-it

On the other side of the coin, in 5years your be paying out for a new turbo where as the 2.2 will still be realiable due to no mods to do.

What sort of miles can you expect with the turbo then before it really needs replacing?

The 2.2 is a nicer engine, better power delivery and there's more torque available low down but there's no real substitute for the outright thrust available from the Turbo. Plus if you buy a Turbo you're getting a trip computer, bigger rims/brakes etc. and you've a better choice of Coupes. Only the SEs look as good and they're rocking horse on the used market.

The 2.2 is technically a much better and more modern engine. It's also alloy so is much lighter than the Z20LET and suits the chassis better.

Give Regal enough money and they'll wind it up to 180bhp which will also give you more lb/ft than a standard 2.0T.

Trim wise the only thing the 2.2 loses is the body coloured seat belts (most turbos are missing these too) and the odd oversized steering wheel.

Try 'em both to see which you prefer. I did and liked the 2.2 best.
