    have fun mate...
I'm sure there's gotta be an easier way - but it took me about 2 hours, some screwdrivers, a hacksaw, a hammer, pair big of pliers, and all the stength I could muster. They're f*****s!

If it's anything like my old Corsa it'll mean cutting the rubber gear knob off with a stanley knife. Then there will be a yellow plastic piece on top of the gear lever itself that will need to be hacksawn off. Then it will be a case of just using the old spring and screwing up an bolt on the new gear knob.

Did my astra mk3 a few month ago with a momo carbon style one. It was hard work...you just need a set of pliers for grip and a lot of strength to twist the plastic bit off (under the standard gear knob). Not too hard, just need a lot of elbow grease.

I think basically there are 2 ways that the gearknobs have been fitted.
Ram and myself were lucky in that ours just twisted off.

Others need to be cut off, as they have an inner collar that is bonded pretty well onto the gear shaft.

I would suggest that you try and twist it off first (gently though), failing that get your hacksaw (or dremel) out.

I just watched what the mechanic did to change the knob and he had to take a hacksaw to it :? .

This was for my MK4 Astra SRi (2000), but its probably the same for all Mk4's.

First, he cut through the leather bit and ripped that off. Underneath, there is this massive metal chunky bit, which he had to hack half of it off, before it just popped off the gear stick.

I will see if I can post the pics later of the metal chunk thing
