What would you do to a bottom end so it could handle over 300bhp with easy.

I was thinking

Low compression Pistons
Oil spray bars
ARP bolts

as a basic upgrade.

What is the main reasion for fitting rods ?? I thought they were for high reving engines but doesnt really happen on a turbo engine 6750-7000 on average. Unless you have a turbo the size of a dustbin lol

Is it worth uprating the valve springs also ??

post away :D

would you be just as well off with a vxr bottom end - spray bars in that and sure the pistons maybe better too

but the only problem is Vauxhall arnt doing a VXR short block yet :(.

I am sure when they do demand is going to be very high

by that do you mean you have to buy the whole engine block (excuse my lack of technical wordage)

i seem to remember someone on migweb fitting spray bars to there block themselves - maybe worth a search ;) possibly on an xe or c20 but gives you an idea

Yer I saw that thread as you can get the VXR oil sprays from vauxhall for cheap money.

it all depends on where you want the 300bhp+ to be. if its like standard, with a big torque hit at 3k, then you will need stronger rods and pistons. if its 300+bhp at high rpms with a lower torque spread, then id jsut go for uprated arp rod bolts and air-air oil cooler. at higher rpms theres less shock load on the engine, which is where you bend rods.

Any one ever heard of a bent rod ??

Courtenay are doing a bottom end rebuild now. But don't know how much it is. Low com piston's, spray bar, rod's, bolts, fully ballanced etc.

Z20LET Engine Rebuild

Z20LET engine being stripped down and rebuilt to a much higher specification, using uprated high yield forged pistons, uprated steel rods with ARP rod bolts, the addition of under piston cooling (oil spray jets), lightened and balanced internals including crankshaft, flywheel, pistons and rods, the removal of the counter rotating balancer shafts (VXR Z20LEH specification) and re-fitting with new oil pump, water pump, cambelt, tensioners, bearing, stem seals, and gaskets.
Prices range from £3,000 - £4,000 (including parts and labour to remove the engine from the vehicle, disassemble and reassemble it, all the required maching work and refitting in the engine bay) depending upon specification as each engine is rebuilt to individual requirements and quoted according to required specification.

3-4k heck of a lot of cash though, cheaper to buy a z20leh and do a conversion would have thought

For the price of Steel rods for the LET/XE engines these days(£350 with ARP bolts) I would definately fit them.

At the end of the day you get what you pay for so 4k is not to bad imo :cheesy:

LEH replacement is 4.5k, + you get your ZLET lump to sell on.

Neilc

Still might be better to rebuild the standard one and it will be more bullet proof than the LEH ones

Wonder how much it would cost if you under took most of the work your self ??
