View Full Version : Sump plug problems - Won't come out!

Last time I changed the oil the plug went in and when tightening it, it felt like it threaded but seeing as it was tight, I left it.

Tried to take it out today to change the oil again and it would turn but not come out.

Is my best option to call vxl for a new plug, gasket and sump?

90502090 - sump gasket?

90502556 - sump plug?

9158192 - sump?

Are these correct?

You could always just have the threads tapped out presuming youve cross threaded it. Personally Id prefer the option of replacing the lot...just to be on the cautious side.

All the part numbers are defo correct.... but you'll also need a plug washer @ 90528145 and possible new oil pan to carrier bolts - 16 @ 11095091

Does the plug move at all? if you are turning the ratchet and its just spinning its more than likely cross threaded. If it is its not completely nessecary to buy a new lwer sump. You can drill out the hole then re tap a thread into it and fit a new bolt. Saves a fair bit f money instead of the possible £120 for all the bits.

spot on with thr pt no's

except you'll need a new sealig ring which I make 90528145 (not sure this comes with a new plug or not)

I think it does?

Not keen on drilling and tapping, I would rather just get a new one. Best bet is vxl? Or is there somewhere online?

Try www.autovaux.com - give them a bell and mention Astrasport

Did and did. Could only get a discount on the plug and gasket, but £108 all in inc delivery which is cheaper than vxl for the sump alone.

Didn't order the bolts though, should I have?

nargh, you should be OK reusing the bolts

You'll need some gasket sealant, and some thread lock (for the sump bolts) too.

Just get all the old thread lock off the botls and then reapply some new stuff

lol Gasket sealant being blue stuff??!!

Will do, how long roughly to change? Any challenges perceived with having to take the sump off when its full??!!

you need to use rtv(room temperature vulcanisation) sealent mate so it wont leak - can be bought from halfords, though vauxhalls probably cheaper for a tube.

Probably just a lot of mess! good luck in sorting it.

i never bothered with any of that sealant stuff and just whacked a new gasket on mine. No sign of leaks here. Its dead easy to do rob, hardest bit is removing the level sensor on the inside.
