Hi guys,
wonder if anyone on here has experienced a similar problem with their Mk4 Astra GSi (Z20LET).
Usually at least once a week my car will jump out of 1st gear. This only happens when changing from reverse to 1st with the car still rolling slightly (Pulling off my drive in the morning), or when approaching a junction/set of lights and you put it into 1st while still rolling slightly. When you put it into 1st and lift the clutch/raise revs slightly to pull away, it throws it out of 1st and you go nowhere. Put it back into 1st and its fine.
Seems to happen mostly when cold, 1st thing in the morning, but happens when warm at junctions etc???
Any suggestions as to what could be up??

Ok mate, cheers for the reply!
Its been into the stealers under warranty, apparently they checked the gear selector cables, re aligned them etc and changed the gearbox oil (which they have just rang me up, 2 weeks later, to say I have to pay for as its not covered by the warranty, but they didnt ask for my consent before doing this so I told them to sod off!) but its still doing it.
Its going back in on Monday so was just wondering if anyone on here has an idea what it may be? Problem is, it doesn't do it all the time, and whenever they've had the car they cant fault it!?

i had mine back at the dealers 4 times to try and explain what was wrong but even after leaving it with them overnight twice they still couldnt tell me what was wrong as they said it didnt do it with them so they wouldnt do anything as they say theirs not a problem. mind you they were peugeot mechanics (its a used coupe turbo) so wouldnt expect much from them. i know theres a fix that vauxhall have for the synchro mesh or something that they only replace part of the system. this might be for another gear box mind you but ill try and double check that for you.

i dont know much about it either price or what it actualy involves but im sure someone already discussed fitting this i dont think its any more difficult than fitting a quick shifter. you could try asking one of the moderators, Ffoeg perhaps he seems quite clued up on things or he could point you in the write direction.

Hmm, mines a March 04 car, so its likely to be produced after week41/2003. It may have been stood around for a long time before registering, so I'll check it tomorrow at work.
Anybody know if it tells you in the chassis number week/yr?

no there pretty good once you get the hang of it. once you put your cars details in only the relevant stuff for your car is displayed. it also shows you how to change alot of things like a haynes and gives you labour times for certain jobs.

I see there are sveral different discs for sale on ebay, which seller did you buy from as you seem happy with it.

VXL are making TIS an EPC readily available on the net soon, so i was told by Vxhl parts man. Makes things so much easier. Rather than " yeah i want a jobber fingy that fits in that bit by the engine!" you say, P/no 44115226 "agh yes sir, carbon canister solenoid Z20LET" would be the reply! (thats not the p/no for the CCS btw) easier all round.

OK - Had car in at my local dealer today. They hadn't even written down my complaint about it jumping out of gear, so I had to tell them about it all over again. Also showed them the details given o me by Spok - and what do you know, they went form "Oh well if we cant experience the fault we cant fix it" to "We'll look into it right away"!!!!
Got a call later from my mate (whos a mechanic there) saying that my car was actually too new for the chassis number in the bulletin, but the gearbox number on the box was actually in spec on the bulletin - so they have ordered the repair kit for it!
I belive its gearbox out, strip and replace 1st and second gear + syncro, but I'll find out for sure when the parts arrive.
Ill keep you posted incase anyone else is having the same problems!!
