View Full Version : Cambelt query !
im having my cambelt changed next week at my local vauxhall dealer!
the car done 42,000 miles so its now due!
my q is does the cambelt or any of its parts become nosiy near the end of its life, ive noticed recently that on acceleration the engine produces an uneven sound (very hard to explain) im not sure if this is normal for the let's as ive never been in another one ! ive been told though that the let's are noisy engines?
any help will be great
cheers
scott
I'm not too sure mate but I can tell the note change when my oil gets low in my n/a car so you may want to check that. Make sure you get your water pump done at the same time as these tend to die after you've fitted the new belt and then you'll need to have it stripped down again to fix it.
Sorry I can't be more use.

It could be the tensioners that are making the noise you descride, i've had a car the same before
If it is though your living on borrowed time because i'm sure the only reason it has to be done at 40k is because of them
went to my local dealer today , it could be what u say autosparks !
apparently my performace will be altered aswell !

My old 2.0Sri sounded like a bag of spanners before I got the cambelt done. Afterwards it was a lot quieter and pulled better :)

Also it is not uncommon for the water pumps to fail, which may make that sort of noise

^^^ Very true ^^^
Got mine done at the time with rollers and tensioners etc. Make sure you do the lot!
im paying £210 for the cambelt change at my local dealer , how much extra is a water pump gonna cost if i get it done at the same time ?

DO NOT buy the parts through you stealer!
Quote for my 2.0SRi Cambelt change from vaux with parts:
£400 with cambelt/rollers/tensioners/Pump :omg
Instead I bought the parts from LMF:
Cambelt/Rollers/Tensioners/Pump £110
Vaux Labour £140
Saving a tidy £150!!!
well my local dealer has quoted me £210 all in , excluding water pump !

Ring 'em and see what it would cost with the water pump! They told me £400 with the water pump (Only a £40 part)
The local dealers here do a cambelt for £200 too from their 'menu'

£400 seems excessive. Just dug out the invoice from when i had mine done, and the local vaux dealer charged £265 all in for a cambelt+water pump change.

That's exactly what I told them + promptly told them to shove it
