View Full Version : dump valve releasing excessively..
I know a few have issues relating to fitting dump valves, but not seen this one yet...
Basically, got the baileys d26-d fitten, and the OE one still in place too. I've fitted the one way valve as well.
Everything works as it should, plus the boost gauge is showing the results expected.
When i get to about 80-100mph on my own track, say i'f im just coasting (foot off accelerator) as soon as i put my foot back down again, the dump valve releases for ages (tssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss) and theres very little power, then after a few seconds, power will pick up and the hissing will stop.
Is this a common problem, or something out of place?
Thanks
I am no expert..... But to me it sounds like there is air in the system from coasting and when you put your foot down, its trying to release that air?
By accelerating, its drawing more air so it wants to get rid of the old stuff?
I dunno though.
yea sounds about right mate, so you think that means there may be nothing you can actually do about it?
TBH, I have no idea. It sounds like a viable theory, but it also sounds like its jsut that, a theory. :(
It's the bailey staying open instead of closing or leaking on half throttle. One of the main issues with it and perfeclty common.

is there anything that can be done to help? improved spring? or?

Yeah take it off and fit something else.
I put a stonger spring in mine and a marginally thicker o ring. It helps but doesn't stop it. Also I actually slightly better with the oe unit blanked off for some reason.

I assume your are running the Vacume from the back of the engine if this is happening?. Run your vaccum of the FPR and it will be much better.
This is a common one on Zlets using Bailey DV's I tried in vain for a solution. In the end I admitted defeat, and took it off and now I just use the OE one, and the car runs much better, yeah, I miss the noise, but the poor running is one thing I dont miss.......
Mine does the exact same thing mate, even though i have disabled the OE dump valve.

I had mine running off the fpr vacuum and motorway driving I found it worse. It wasn't jerky granted but half throttle was a pig.

They are not designed to come of the place where the OE DV takes it vacum. Phone Bailey and ask them

TBH running a piston type DV i don't think the car will ever be as good but a few people are running the HKS SSQV which works in a similar way the OE valve. I will giving one a try.

or you have the one way valve the wrong way round!! so the OE DV wont shut under boost and stay open, you should be able to tell if this is the case, cos the car feels slow as you like and it takes ages to reach any substantial boost levels.
I had this problem aswell jonesy and then the dv broke. It's the motorway / private track cruising speeds that annoyed me about it so never refitted the new replacement I got and reverted it back to using the oem one. :(
Well up until yesterday I was one of the people who strongly said it was possible to have a DV setup without any problems. I had mine running along side the OEM one and never felt any problems at all.
That was until last night when I took the power pipe and Dumpvalve off and put the OEM pipe back on. Took the car for a test drive and DAMN what a difference.
For a start the car boost's higher in 2nd and 3rd gear. Previously I was getting around 0.7-0.8 bar in 2nd gear but back at standard it's just over the bar mark. The car also picks up a lot quicker as well.
Therefore I now have to agree with the majority on here and say lose the DV !!. I too miss the tttsccccchhh of the dump valve but would rather have the stronger performance than the noise of the DV. That said I now have a little wastegate chatter as well which is quite cool.
FYI - My dump valve is actually up for sale on AS here right now - and I'll be buying a stopper kit for the Power pipe and installing as soon as it arrives.
