View Full Version : My New Astra Coupe Turbo
Ok, just got the new Turbo Coupe, when does the cambelt need changing, this ones got FSH, but the chap i got it from says its not due until 80k, I dont think thats right as my Sri Turbo was due at 40k or so says the service book? I take it you experts would say get it done ASAP? If so whats a average price, aand should i have anyting else to look out for, sorry to sound a bit of a novice, but my SRI had only 28k on it when i got rid of it so did not need to worry about these things. Its done 48k
I would say the cambelt should be changed at 40k, not to sure how much that would cost
Just better getting it done asap. I got mine done as soon as I bought my coupe and it was well needing it.
Should cost around £300 all in. They will replace (or should at least...) the water pump too. It costs about £28 but is worth doing when everything is apart.

As above....defo 40k so get it done as matter of course asap. As far as I recall - the water pump will NOT be changed automatically therefore it would be wise (put it this way youd be stupid not to !!) to specify the pump be changed at the same time.
Cost should be circa £300 depending on where u go. Genuine GM kits can be had for very little money if u know where to look.
^That was almost a quote!! lol
I put mine in to a vxl place and they just did the water pump, but its mates who are the mechanics so probably just did it as a favour.
When the timing belt is taken off, the tensioners need replaced so better getting it all done when its apart.

Yeah I did kinda realise that but thought I would mention that the pump isnt necessarily changed as part of the service - just incase any1 had the belt kit changed and not the pump and it went tits up.
Oh well I'll keep my opinions to myself in future - even if they are almost identical to previous replies!
lol
Multiple replies with the same content is better I'd say. :)
P.S. whats your sig about?!

It needs done "AGAIN" at 80k it's prob been done at 40k thats why he said it doesnt need done till 80k.
Good point, i was thinking it may have been done at 40K, any way to tell? and if it aint would it be wise to drive it? or would you get the belt done first? Had a price of 180 to replace it, my local mechanic said no to the water pump, said he would check it out, but could replace for £30.

defo get the water pump replaced at the same time - trust us on this one!
surely it would be in the service history somewhere if its been changed. If its a full dealer history u could contact the dealer to see if its already been changed. If it hasnt then it would be adviseable to get it done asap. Remember to get the full kit fitted and not just the belt. ie tensioners/rollers etc. together with the water pump expect circa £300 at a main dealer
not read all the posts jus skipped thru but...
if its someone like nationwide autocentres (AA), Vxl etc theyll be able to tell you what was done. I had to do the same when i bought mine, rung the AA and they told me what was done on its last 5 services :)
If it were changed at 40k hed be right in saying its due again at 80k. If it were me and my shiny new motor, and i were in any doubt id change it anyway, better to be safe than sorry and all that

Has anyone had a belt snap on the z20let? Or anyone know of anyone and what the damage was. Mine snapped on my old mk2 1.4 astra, 3 weeks after buying it! I think I got away with it lightly and it cost £450 to totally fix :(
