Hi

Im just after some technical info if anyone can help me. Im just wanting to know about the aircon system fitted to the Z20LET. There is a fan to the left of the standard intercooler that has something to do with the aircon.

Now aircon is where a gas is used to cool the air. I was just wondering how or what that fan has to do with it and how that cold air once its mixed with the gas, gets from where ever that happens to the cockpit.

I know this is very technical and im sorry if this sounds a bit daft but i was just wondering if anyone knew how the whole aircon system works?

Ive just had a radical idea. :)

Can anyone help?

That fan is there to cool down the hot AC gasses mainly when the cars stuck in traffic on a hot day and your sitting there with your AC on

In normal driving I don't believe the fan will be on

Without that fan the AC will dectect to much pressure in the system and shut down

Whats your radical idea?

if the fan is taken off doesnt it set off a warning light on the dash?

yeah, because it has an open circuit.

No, But your on the right lines.

Idea 1 is to remove the whole lot. That fan is in my way. :) If that fan wasnt there we could all run bigger FMIC's. The reason i want to remove my aircon is that it can sometimes trigger my asthma so i never use it. The Ecu would through a wobbler so the ecu would need to be told it was there but it really isnt.

Idea 2, I need some more info first, But your dam close Ben :)

Well if you want to remove the AC system i'd say your best bet is to have it degassed and then remove the fan and also as a precuation unplug the compressor also

That way when you come to sell the car it can all be put back to how it was as no one wants a car without ac these days

Can't see that removeing the fan will cause lights to come on, try unplugging it and see what happens

Are you thinking of plumbing the air con feed into the air box jonathan?

With the Pace intercooler you still retain a front air-con fan.

The ecu will not throw a wobbler if the air con is not connected.

No it doesnt throw a wobbler if the fan isnt connected, it just brings a light up...

theirs no way the aircon system could cool the amount of air your engine demands, it would have been done years ago otherwise.

The only connection to the motronic ecu is to tell the ecu extra load is being put on due to air con so it keeps idle up. this wont bring up a light if disconnected.

so when i disconnected my fan, and the light came up on the dash, i was dreaming it??

Your telling me you disconnected your fan and the management light displayed? Intresting as the fans are connected to a series of relays and not connected to the managment system.

But if you say it did it must have, im just pointing out from a managment point of view its not directly connected.
