If you do a search for ticking a few others have commented on this item ticking so I would say it's not a problem

its a fuel purge valve they do tick mainly when warm nothing to worry about at all

What exactly does this fuel purge valve do? (and please don't tell me it purges fuel).

It purges fuel. :p

That wee valve is connected to the fuel tank vent - the vapours collect in the wee valve which then pumps the vapours into the intake manafold when the engine is warm.

Its to help control emissions basically. Nothing to worry about when it is ticking away to itself, can be quite noisey sometimes too

Can the system be removed?

LordNikon

I dont think so mike, it does something with the gases from the fuelling side so i wouldn't have recommended it personally

I'm not so bothered about removing it, but is there any way of stopping it ticking - mine sounds so chuffing loud!

its the valve opening and closing that makes the ticking noise they do get noiser as they wear not much u can do really except replace it possibily

its prob noisy because its resonating throo the bodywork..touching the metal on the strut housing?
mount out of way of bodywork...etc..

scoob have sim thing with the turbo solenoid vlave..ticks and resonates throo bodywork badly..

They all tick - just that some are louder than others.
