Hi everyone!

I've got a 2l 16v 2002 Astra Coupe Turbo, and booked it in at a Perfect Power dealer here in South Africa yesterday for the fitment of the SMT7 chip.

Has anyone had any experience with them, and how is the chip with this car specifically?

I'm having the 2 map, ie. low and high boost maps, option included as well.

The low map will keep the signals as is, thus the car should run EXACTLY as it does standard.

High boost will run the boost at 0.9 bar constantly through the rev range. I should be running 95 octane fuel normally... would this be sufficient, or will I experience detonation. If this won't be high enough to get detonation, how high CAN I push the boost up before I'll start getting detonation?

Thanks in advance! ;-)

Hi im running on 98RON as advised by one of the Tuners here in the UK. This is required on modified maps over th timing slightly retards itself. Current fule tests are supposidly also showing gains in power from the better fuel.

If you can't get 98RON fuel then you can always add an Octane Booster (ie: Millers).

dont they do high octane fuel at the pump in southafrica?? im sure they do!

running 95ron fuel on a stock car is bad enough over here!

0.9 bar is about 12-13 psi, thats fairly low anywasy. I would say you'd be ok with standard 95ron fuel, the best thing u could do would be a new bigger IC more than anything else, plus a precat removal ;)

What is the SMT7? If it is a chip or programable ECU, the tuner should be able to map it to cater for the lower octane.

That said, I am running 1.4 bar and I can use 95 octane fuel no problems. This is on a CS3 map.

Yeah, the SMT7 is a piggyback chip.

We only have 95 octane here AT A FEW stations! :-P The government recently upgraded from 93!!!!

We can get racefuel rated at 102, but that's also apparently going down to 98 now! And it's also very difficult to get hold of that, and quite more expensive than pump fuel!

Damn - we can get 99 octane at the pump over here!

If you run into detonation problem, simply fit a water injection kit. That will sort you out! :)
