took the project car for an mot today but i cant figure out the problem, the immision where so high it was rediculas ive never seen a car so out but there is a problem with the car, when cold it doesnt like the 1.5 to 2k mark its judders and jerks so bad you cant drive it but if u go past that mark its perfect. Once the car is warmed up its much better but there is still a slight problem. Has anyone had a similar thing its got to be a sensor or something but which. Its a catch 22 really as the engine has been stood for 2 years and really needs a goo thrapping to clear it out but i cant do that as its not mot'ed or taxed so i cant win.
sounds like you need to clear it's throat, what about taking it out on your private track in the early hours?

Does sound like you really need to give it a good run.. thats the best and cheap possible way of trying first.. what happens when you've reved for a bit when its idling? Does it go normal again or is it normal only once its warmed up?

how many miles has it done mate? if its not to high you could try that 10K boost from eco tek, just a sudjestion

its a gsi turbo z20let conversion we have done the engines has only done 2k but been stood for ages since it was last ran. Its very bad when cold and you cant drive slow i.e u have to nail it to go past 1.5-2k or its horrific and undrivable. Ive loaded it today with 4 bottles of different engine cleaners and immision liquid i.e redex but the unbranded stuff we get and it seems to have made a huge difference. Its a perfect engine when its at 80-90 the only thing ive found its its guzzling fuel i cost me 20 quid to do 50 miles today but there was a lot of idiling to let it run and clean through. We also hade a lot of white smoke when u blib the throttle but that also seems to be dissapearing. i wondered if an ecu reset would help or maybe take it to vaux for them to remap the ecu but the only issue there is i cant until its moted.
thanks for your help keep it coming.

i know your allowed to drive to and from an MOT without tax but not sure if you can to repair it, would have thought so, otherwise how would you get it fixed for a re test?
sounds like the coolent temp senser maybe faulty (running cold start map all the time so over fueling)

i know my intercooler sensor doesnt work as it wont idle with it plugged in ill check the coolent temp sensor, anyone got a pic of which it is so i can order one and try it out
thanks again

so far ive had:
its becouse your intercoooler sensor is not connected
coolent temp sensor
lamba sensor
and the AMM (what is an AMM)
im struggling now as i dont want to have to replace all those parts to find is only one of worse still non of them.

If the exhaust tip is black then mix is rich, I would then go for lambda, there are 2 !
AMM is the Air Mass Meter, follow the pipe from the top of the airbox around the 90deg bend and her presto. Common faults with these.
Get the IC plug working too, u have no hope if your running around with known broken parts and not fixing them first !!
If your intercooler sensor is not connected then the car will not boost correctly you will get all kinds of wierd and wonderful problems.

problem i have when the intercooler sensor is connected the car idles arratic and is totally undrivable, if this just a sensor issue or the interooler itself. ive ordered a 20 litre cooler but im awaiting it to arrive.

The 2.6 V6 has 4!
One infront of each CAT and one after each CAT
Not sure whats wrong with your car m8, zorst isnt blowing is it?
My engine seems a little erratic at 1700rpm in any gear.....thats on flat without having any throttle on :S
Kinda bounces me down the road.
Also is there a way of testing your Air Mass Meter? (AMM) to see if its working?
I may tap mine with a screwdriver  see if it picks up any better, but the zorst is probably my problem why mines died lol.

have you had it on the diagnostics? might be a good idea?

no i cant until ive got an mot thats the main problem, im just deciding if to change the AFM and or lamda sensors as ive read various sections on here stating these can cause the problems i am having like the engine managment light coming on when the AFM if faulty and the lamda causing the car to overfuel.
if your car is a pre-2000 you should be able to read the ECU error codes yourself using the paperclip trick

whats the paperclip trick, im not sure what the engine is as its a conversion but i think its an 02 with it being a Z20LET turbo

ive bought an AMM well i think its the AMM he actually callled it the air flow sensor im hoping its the same thing as its cost me £113 even at cost price.

just been told that there is meant to be a sensor of some kind under the ecu and we dont have it wired up, the wring is there jus no sensor. Dont honeslty know what it is or does but think id better order one incase.
