I have the coupe 2.0 turbo and it look like I messed up my engine. I have lots of smoke coming from the exhaust and I lose around half of my oil when I drove 40 miles. I took it to a repair shop and they are saying that the engine needs to be rebuilt. Does any one know how much this usually costs or if there are any reliable places in the West Midlands that I can get the work done?

Any help would be appreciated.

What colour is the smoke? blue-ish?

Does the car seem underpowered?

Does the engine make any unusal noises?

It sounds like it could be turbo related. . . . answer the questions and maybe we could delve deeper....

Hi Thanks for the reply
The smoke seems to be more white than blue
The power seems fine except when at low speeds when it feels like it looses power and then kicks back in. Low speed between 10 and 20 mph.
The engine sounds normal with no strange noises

I had a problem with the turbo and had it replaced no more that 3 months ago.

Best to get a second (full and correct) opinion - only when you know what's actually wrong, will someone be able to put a price on it.

I have checked two places and both are saying the same thing. I will try another place just to be sure.
Thanks

And what are they saying is the cause/problem?
How many miles has the engine covered?

The first place said that they could not do it and didnt tell me much about it thats why i took it to the second place. The car is still at the second place they are looking to see what has caused this and how much it will cost.
The engine has done around 48,000 miles

I would be booking it into vauxhall for their diagnosis

Is there any way that I can tell if it is the turbo? Can I isolate the turbo to test this?

not really. I would do a visual check first on the turbo itself, look for oil/water leaks.
also, if you have a boost gauge then take the car for a spin, and see if the turbo is hitting the correct boost.
Thats all I can think off, best option would be to get a VXL tech 2 diagnostics test

it will probably still boost ok, sounds like you have an oil leak into the turbine side, hence the white smoke... if it was getting into the intake of the turbo and going throught the engine it would be blue...

Sound like turbo to me aswell. Other things u could try is if u drive it hard does the dip stick pop out? Also could try taking the crank breather pipe off and get someone to rev the car and see if smoke puffs out.

Your thinking of an escort RST...

It doesnt sound like the oil is going through the engine, sounds like its leaking out in the turbo...

have you looked at your coolent? just make sure that your water is just water, not mixed with oil, if it is then ur head gasket is gone. just check to make sure, although it does sound turbo related to me

If the head gasket fails it doesnt mean that there will be water in the oil or vise verser... it could just loose some compression, it could pressurise the water aswell.

Sounds like the turbo, but only 3 months after a new one?

Has your car had a remap? If not, the new turbo should be under warranty.

well it looks like the problem is the turbo but there is some oil that is still getting into the engine, but they said to drive it and see how much over time.
VXL replaced the last as the broke the first one somehow, but are playing the out of warranty thing, and they replaced it as a good gesture.

What i mean about the dip stick and crank breather is to see if there is a probelm inside the engien rather than turbo

i was only narrowing out one of the 100's of things it could be, cuz its the easiest one to tell!!! thats the problem with asking for help, people advise on your situation and others talk down to you as if they know everything and we know nothing!

If you thought i was talking down to you or anyone, you just read my comments out of context.... need smilies... The reason i know was purely from experience and nothing more..
