You can go and see a diesel tuner and get it de-limited and chipped.

Mk4 1.7 TD LS 100mph
100mph
That's the top speed of a 1.7 D

your having a bubble??
top speed of the 1.7DTi is only 106 mph (VX figures) - so a TD is gonna be slower

Yeh mate all diesel engines are limited by a governor either mechanical, hydraulic or electronic. Otherwise as the engine is increasing in revs a diesel engine will just keep increasing and increasing in revs until it goes pop, this is due to the diesel pump usually being belt driven from the engine, therefore as engine speed increases diesel pump speed increases, as diesel pump speed increases engine speed increases... etc..
so a governor is used so that when the diesel pump reaches a certain speed it reduces or cuts the fuel going to the injectors and hence slows the engine, which in turn slows diesel pump, which then increases fuel to injectors again, increasing engine speed until pump reaches its set speed again. this action creates a rev limiter effect which limits the engine as to how fast it can go say 4500 RPM.
if u are wanting to increase the power i would take it to a local diesel specialists and see wat they can do, i wouldn't attempt to adjust at home as it can go very bad if adjusted inncorrectly.
also the 1.7 td is 68 bhp
the 1.7 dti is 75 bhp
the 2.0 dti is either 82, 84 or 100 bhp depending on year
all the above bhp figures are from autodata database

Well all i can say then is its a fast 67bhp
its also showing my missus's car as a 59bhp with a top speed of 90, when i was using her car, waiting for mine to come out of the garage I had 105 out of it, so the site is slightly wrong..
and my astra leaves hers standing (yes we did race)lol..
just found another site saying it does 74bhp at 4400 rpm
so out of 3 sites they are all different??
According to VX the TDi only puts out 75PS (74bhp). So I've no idea where your getting 82 from

Yeah that's what I thought, the 1.7 td is the vx diesel, in the mk 3 there was the izuzu lump as a 1.7 as well that was 80odd bhp.
the 82/84 bhp 2.0s are badged as "Di" not "DTi" as they lack the intercooler.

The isuzu engine came in the mk3's with 82bhp. The mk3 isuzu lump didnt come in the mk4 from the factory anyway.... The 1.7TD (GM engine) came in the mk4 with 68bhp. Why dont u take a photo of your engine bay and post it up :)

good idea... i'll do that...
a guy from my town got caught speeding at 114 mph is a Mk4 1.7td astra LS. My Mk4 a is only a 1.6 8 valve but it gets to 120 on the clocks. driving along side my friends impreza turbo to check its correct, against his clocks anyway. From what ive been told, some can be limted whilst most arent. Due to diferent specs for diferent countries and laws etc
