Usually if the air flow meter is playing up it is accompanied with engine warning lights on the dash and/or poor running i.e. car going into 'emergency power' mode limited to 60mph etc.
If yours has gone a new vaux one is around £110-£180 depending where u go and engine type. If the ebay one is genuine and new/ish then imo it's worth getting. They always seem to blow from time to time, and if you don't need it you'll always find another buyer....
sems to be running ok, just maybe a bit slow from standstill, engine management light on for a bit when cold then goes out but have been told this is the glow plugs.

hmmm might be glow plugs but Ive had 100k out of the Di (diff engine I know) without any problems from the glow plugs. Might be worth buying the AFM anyway and trying it - then sell it on if it doesn't solve the problem...
If the engine light is on from the start for about 10-30sec, it's usually the gloplugs. I had the same problem. Airflowmeter usually acts up when driving/accelerating, loss of power which you will defenitely notice.
engine light on for a couple of minutes then goes out, or can force it out if i stop engine and restart. Engine has covered 92K and is 4 year old mind you it did cover 81k in 2 1/2 years as a company car.
