View Full Version : Snapped exhaust manifold stud
Ello
B4 a left for offshore last time a started up the beast and it sounded like a burst Zorst so I set out on a wee investigation and found it to be a snapped stud in the head
Is this a common thing or would it b cause ma car is to close to the ground and a sleepin copper made it snap:confused:
If it's the top left stud near the thermostat then yes that's quite common.

:hysterical: yeh it is mate, am just hopein its snapped just inside the manifold so a can still weld a nut on and get it out

yeah i had this, didnt get it sorted straight away as money was tight and it broke the borrom 1 aswell, both broke just inside the head so when i did get round to doing it i had to have a company come out and drill them out on the car and re-tap the holes, cost £105 and they came to the house and done it,been all good since
try a removal tool called grabit - id never used one or attempted it before - i drilled a hole into the leftover of the bolt, put the tool in and out it came with ease. the only pain was removing half the bits to gain access for the drill
here you can see where i drilled the hole that was still in the head - the grabbit tool simply turns to the left and then grips like a screw as the threads on the tool go the opposite way - 5 mins and i had this out from the same place as yours

i was lucky on mine - no re tapping was needed - the new manifold bolts went right in without issues

I have most stuff for phase 3 (front mount, VXR air flow meter and injectors) but not sure about remapping, called wallace and they were wanting £699+vat to map it,
Need to get a wee meet once yours is back together :)
