View Full Version : Tapping/Knocking
Hi there just wandering if any1 has experienced this problem? I am looking to buy a 03 reg 50k astra gsi turbo FSH, just had new turbo etc. Experiencing a knocking/tapping sound when cold. To be honest it sounds slightly like a 1litre corsa! The chap has told me it goes when its warm and its done it since he's had it. Just wondering if i should stay clear? Any advice VERY welcome.

manifold bolts mate,either come loose,or knackered gasket,or worse case sheered od,very very common on the z20let,mine has done it twice,sounds very tappety when cold,goes away after 5 mins or so,but if you turn it off and leave it a while then start it again it does it again
The hydraulic tapets on these engines are noisy for a while from cold and it goes away after a while, they all do it.
un regular oil oil changes can caurse it too, or a too thinner oil the old 2.0 l 16 v was even worse but vx changed the tapets so shouldnt do it with regular oil changes as the tapets drain
went to see another today and it sounded similar.vx's told me its the manifold so im going for another look 2mra as the chap has informed me that if you rev it slightly the noise goes.so i hope its nothing major and it only sounds like manifold.has any1 had to pay for this if so how much???vx told me its 150 labour plus parts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if there replacing the gasket then yer that ok price if they just gonna tihjyen the studds then no its a diy job

if its just the manifold u need - gimme a shout
i got a perfectly good manifold/turbo etc from a 60k engine for sale if u want it (just changed so i could get a vxr one)
i can strip the manifold and sell u just that if u wish....let me know
