hi my srit keeps over boiling the coolant but the temp gauge is working fine it shows correct it stays on and around 90 once warmed up! (the same temp as my oil temp gauge!) The fans come on if i leave it runing!
any ideas would be good?
would the cooling mod help?
was thinking of changing all the water pipes, pump and thermostat?
thanks for the help guys

i don't see what the problem is here.

you could try fitting the coool running stat.

 its meant to run at 90oC, theres nothing wrong with it

hi but the coolant is leaking/spraying from the expansion tank filler cap the bottle is coverd in it i have recently put a new cap on it its either over boiling (with the temp gauge showing normal temps!) or the tank has stupid presure in it! where is the sender for the temp gauge? when my vxr turbo was fitted could the pipes be on wrong sending the hot coolant strait to the bottle not the rad?? i can't remember how they looked beforhand to check
it's got me!

water goes from the expansion to the rad then through the engine. maybe the bottle has a hole in it?

mine runs anywhere between 85-95

do you mean it is leaking out of the tank? If so then massive overpressure denotes a head gasket failure or a crack in the head/block. Get a mechanic to do a compresiion test of the cylinders and the water system to start with

failing that, buy a compression tester for about 15-20quid, handy peice of kit.

and its dead easy to do.

Sounds like the head gasket im afraid mate. Mine was doing the exact as thing

correct if aim wrong, but coolant boils at lower temperature if there is not enough pressure in system too...also keep in mind, that this fluid has to be changed time to time...old coolant definitely will have lower boiling t.

check the cap still has the rubber seal in it 1st as some 1 pointed out under pressure the water wont boil but if a air leak it will the other common thing is the small pipe that comes from the rad to the expansion tank often cracks and water sprays out no the cooling mod will not help

the cap is a new one so the seal is ok i think i'll just change the pipes that can't hurt! i'm not sure if it's the same thing but when i checked my spark plugs the one on the right as you look at the car from the front (battery end) the hole the plug sits in had some oil in it on top of the plug could that be part of the problem? i will check compression tomorrow!
thanks for all the help guys!

That's probably where it's dripped in from filling the engine up?

Check your expansion tank beacuse mine broke where the hose clips onto the small nipple on the plastic tank, vauxhall have changed the design down :) swines!! Only costs about £15 for a new tank...

what bluewater said, mine was "leaking" but i got it wet when filling it up.

it was a leaking head gasket over pressurising the header tank!
thanks for the steers guys!

how much you pay to get that sorted m8? it sounds exactly the same as my problem, however to add to this i have both sides on my radiator leaking aswell- the plastic sides of the radiator. When you got this job done did you also change the timing belt aswell? If i do get this job done what else could i do at the same time in order to gain on BHP/Torque while the head is off?

Thanx Rich
