View Full Version : CDR500 Radio Not Working After Bulb Change!
I aquired some new bulbs off of Oddjob for my Stereo. So last night i tackaled the task of changing them over. I dismantled the stereo, facia panels only, and then started. After doing one bulb on the removable numbered panel i decide to put the stereo back together to check what i had done was correct. The bulb i had changed had worked, but what i had failed to notice was that none of the bulbs of the main part of the stereo was working! I did not realise this until i had changed all the bulbs and put it back together. Now only 5 of 20 lights work and the whole stereo apart from the volume control is non fucntionalble!
What have i done? Put it together wrong? Runind the circuit board? I'm a novice solderer so i think i may have just ****ed it as they are quite delicate arn't they!
Heres a pic of what i mean!

Yep id get a new stereo mate, probablynot what you wanna hear. But i reckon you av probably put too much solder on it and its run on something else. But im no electrician.;)

I think your better off PMing oddjob direct for his advice Nick
I've now got this CDR500 in bits. Unfortunately it's knackered. The solder had run across to the button contacts, so these were now live. This kinda upset the board
Word of warning to anyone thinking they will attempt the same conversion. Nick used a soldering iron which was plainly too hot and too big. This ended up seperating the copper strips from the board just where the SMDs solder on. Without these solder pads you cannot get a contact. Due to the location you cannot take power from elsewhere, tried but no luck.
Damn, well, you learn from mistakes so i wont be making that mistake again! LOL, not sure weather to get a decent Radio now or get another siemens!
Oddjob, you got my PM's yeah?

Yep got the PMs. As you look like your getting a new system off Danny you still want to waste £5-6 on getting your old one back?

what part of the unit was killed ??
Not sure Danny, the removeable panel is junk. I've not tried the main board yet as there didn't seem much point if the panel was buggered. The main board may work but not had a chance to test it.
