View Full Version : Oh B*llocks. Urgent help needed.
Just took car for spin doing about 90 (obviously on my long private road) in 4th gear suddenly lose power. Put foot down get a bit of power again then just big whooshing sound and no power.Slowed down immediately and limped home (only about a mile). Every time tried goin over about 1500 rpm get no power just v.loud whooosh from turbo.
Any ideas?
I'm guessing just a hose popped off or split. Turbo sounds ok. Have noticed when driving recently been getting a whistling sound so maybe there was a hole and now its just opened up under pressure?
Any help greatly appreciated.

I'll put my telepathetic, transporting crystal ball hat on and find out for you ??
WTF These random my car doesn't feel right, what could it be threads are daft. How does anyone expect us to diagnose a car from miles away with it slowed down and limped home.
No offence to matey here, just this is the latest in a longline of threads like this !

On a non ranting note it certaily sounds like a boost leak from a split hose

Check the hose directly off the bottom of the turbo.
yep, id say a host split..
check all hoses relating/connecting to the turbo

Thanks for help anyway from everyone else.
I have had the bumper off and found the problem anyway.
Heres a pic in case anyone else ever has same problem.

Chrikey that's a big gash (says the midget to the prozzie)...
How the hell have you done that do you think???
That pipe rubs on the bumper
Looks like something was rubbing on the pipe.
That pipe rubs on the bumper
Thats exactly right.
Lol just phoned vauxhall parts to get a price. Told him I had a massive gash. He gave me a discount and am meeting later.
Lol not really. He's gonna charge me £71.50 for new hose. ******.
Put a post up on here asking for one as when you fit a front mount intercooler that pipe isnt used.

Phone courtenay motorsport. I think the samco one for the 9l sidemount is cheaper than that and shuld fit OK.
Steve @ LMF would probably be cheaper as well.

Too true also is that a trade price off VX or retail??
Don't bother with Courtenay or LMF mate I expect that they'll be dearer or the same once you've added the postage on top too...

Good thinking mate will get something in my signature about it.

As it rubs, cut the middle of the hose off thats damaged, replace with some plastic pipe of the right diameter - B&Q + 2 hose clips = no more rubbing on rubber or silicon and therfore wont happen again

Whats the diameter dan , circa ID 50mm of the standard pipework isn't it ???
dannysport18
27-06-2008, 16:48
i think the ID of the pipe is 50mm I could go look see for the guys but a bit of B&Q will get the car on the road if he wants for under £10 an a few clips

Certainly cheaper than £80 and quicker than waiting on a used one coming up imo. Wont rub through either ;)
Can you see it through the grille though, i guess if so wrap it in black insulation tape or something ??

if he ordered one today i cant see it turning up till tuesday ?
so just get it working with a bit or pipe will do for a few days
in the pic he posted it looks like the pipe has started to go under boost
that pipe gets covered in all the dirt salt ect from the roads an it eats them
got one down the garage you can have it.
I've got a spare one, and I'm passing near you tomorrow on my way to Kent. PM me if interested.
Cheers to all of the above for advice and offers of replacement part.
Have managed to sort one now for tomorrow from a member on here so hopefully the duct tape will last till then! :D
Cheers,
Tim.

Right so got the replacement pipe off Andy this morning (cheers andy), got the car jacked, bumper off, pipe replaced, changed fuel filter as well (been meaning to do for a while) and put car back together. :D
Took for test drive....
STILL not running right!
Gonna take it back to Regal to get looked at but b4 I go do ya reckon that because of the hole in the boost pipe it may have blown AFM/plugs?
LordNikon

I'd check the plugs, could have stuffed the AMM but i doubt it tbh
