This might sound stupid but where is the oil filter on the 1.7 diesel engine, I've looked all round mine and can't find it

I believe it is at the bottom of the cambelt lower pulley, left hand side of enigne as you are looking at it! Viewable from behind the drivers side front road wheel!!!
Yeah, I think the same, as the DTi has essentially the same layout as my petrol turbo. On mine you take off the front wheel to get at the filter if you haven't got access to a 4 post ramp, which allows you enough clearance to safely change the filter with the steering locked over
