View Full Version : Cruise control = engine stall + Christmas tree lights!
Anyone with a mapped car used cruise control to accelerate whilst at high speed and had the engine lose power and the dash light up? I remember seeing someone complain about this ages ago. This has happened to me a couple of times now and had to quickly turn off the ignition and back on again whilst doing 90mph in the fast lane! I'm thinking the boost is probably confusing the cruise control but wondered if anyone actually knows why this happens as I miss using my cruise control!

and you loose power steering/breaks and could even engage the steering lock:omg
As apposed to being stuck in the fast lane with no power? It was a reaction thing, as it pretty much sh1ts you up suddenly losing power at 90mph. Steering lock only engages when key is removed from ignition. To turn off and on is only a small turn of the key.

Not really, as I put it into neutral before turning off and turning on, then engaged 5th once the engine was running again.

No because there is no engine power, revs go to 0!

ahh ok... i thot you ment bump starting it on the motorway lol... my bad!!
so basicaly it just completly turns off if accelerating at high speed with cruise crontrol activated?
why would the boost confuse it? would the car go into limp mode if that was the case?

My mate had this problem on his Veccy C 2.2 SRi, turned out to be a thing under the dash, and cost some serious dollar to fix. Will find iout what it was back in 15 mins or less.

It was diagnosed by the Dealer has ABS sensor or CIM.
They changed both in the end, first was the ABS, then the CIM, now all cured.
I just don't use cruise control anymore. Seems to have sorted the problem. It's a shame, but not worth spending loads of cash fixing IMO.
mine sometimes does this but only when press the ressume button so just dont use the resume bit now, aint got a clue why and never really looked into it

I think that you will find it is a 'boost out of range' signal.
Call Courtenay - iirc they have had this problem with cruise before.
I use my curise control all the time at motorway speeds and have never had a problem. i acclerate and then the curise control kicks back in when the car slows down enough again.
doubt it boost out of range as never have a prob with over boost and cruise control dont boost it that much does it
I've used 'cruise' a few times and not had a problem
