Hi, I am a complete noob when it comes to the mechanics behind cars, so please dont mock when i ask this.

Bought a 03 GSi a week ago, (coming from a 1.8 SRi) and it felt really quick, and really felt when the turbo kicked in. Since then i'm sure its not been quite as fast, the Turbo doesnt seem to have anywhere near the same kick, and sometimes doesnt even feel like its working at all. I mean a standard 2.0 Modeo was keeping with me the other day.

Do the Turbo's loose thier power overtime (car has done about 45k miles) or do they jus stop? And if so, does the car continue to run? Because I know if i take it into the garage they will just tell me its working fine if there is no way of proving otherwise.

Thanks in advance. :)

this happened to me once. about 2 weeks after i got my car. i unplugged the battery for 30mins, reconnected it, then drove it for a bit, and half way down the road the traction comntrol light flashed on for a second and the car went FLYING!!!! and the turbo started worked again. i have no idea why it did it, but its been ok for the last 4 months.

its most likely that you are used to the power.

When i think about it, i did fit a sub/amp into my car, and since then i cant remember the Turbo working properly, maybe the Sub power connecting directly to the Battery is causing a drain to my Turbo or something?

I'l unplug the battery as you said, and disconnect the Sub and see what happends.

Thanks

i would imagine the sub could drain some power, just check your actuator aswell on your turbo cuz i had a problem the other day the nut that holds the waste gate lever was un-threading so was shutting the waste gate on the turbo, hence i was losing power (that kick i use to get).that nut tends to work best (i think) about 4 threads up. if its good acceleration u really want i would personally lose the sub,its too much weight.

noticed you just got the car was there any mention of when / if turbo has been replaced / refurbed as standard turbs usually die around 50,000 miles .

Other than that i would say you are just getting used to it but if Mondeo's are keeping up with you and it wasn't the ST220 beast i would be tempted to say turbo on way out . .
