View Full Version : Might be a serious problem??

Hi guys!

I'm posting this here, as AOC probably is the best source to get the proper answer opposed to what the dealer might say...

Anyway: When the car is cold, let's say it's been standing there a couple of days, the clutch (at least I think it's the clutch) makes a knocking sound a few seconds after I've started the car. Especially after I've put it in reverse. The sound is more distinct if I rev the engine somewhat. This clearly isn't valve-related (I've had that problem on a previous Tigra). Oddly, the clutch pedal also vibrates only slightly when this sound occurs.

The entire "problem" goes away just seconds later, probably because the gearbox heats up. What is this? Is it just another clutch that needs replacement or are we talking about a gearbox caving in? The car has approx 108.000 km on the counter, or 67.500 miles.

Anyone else that have experienced this?

Cheers for any advice or answer!

Could it be the ABS self check? Im sure that sounds like a slight knock that occurs briefly?

Defo not the ABS self check, thats just a pinging sound just before pulling away.

Can you tell me what the pinging is? This because my zafira gsi does it when i pull away. My car has done 41K.

Hello.

My Astra is doing exactly the same thing. It`s always at the same speed (10-15 km/h) and only after like you say itīs been standing for while.

I had my clutch changed but not for that reason as you know "Capo79".
Actually I dont know if it still makes that thing but I will check it out.
Dont think itīs a problem anyway...

you press your pedal to test lights not the abs. the abs is being test as soon as you move the car. if there is a problem then the light would come up on the dash

A lot of what you guys have replied here is quite interesting. It seems that I don't have too much to worry about!

I can only guess this has something to do with my ears being VERY sensitive to undesirable sounds:cool: But with that said, I seriously haven't heard that distinct sound before, though I have to admit that it's not hearable with the heater or radio turned on....

Awell. Seems to me that I just have to live with it:lol:

Thanks everyone!
