GM 5w40 Fully synthetic is what i was advised to use by vauxhall and another intendant garage on the Z20LET (heard alot of people saying the 10w40 is better tho,

This is why I put up the poll/post.

Some say to run 5w30 and some say 10w40.

I use Vauxhalls 10w40 semi synthetic but thinking of changing to Vauxhalls 5w30 fully synthetic.

I used 10w40 once and had very bad tappet noise on cold start up. I use 5w30 and runs like a dream doesnt lose any either.

Castrol Magnatec 10w 40 for me, although my fisrt stamp in the service booklet says 10w 30. The first services were done by the same vauxhall garage but on the second service they used 10w 40.

Just to throw another spanner in the works........When i took my GSI to regal (http://www.astraownersclub.com/vb/autolink.php?id=4&script=showthread&forumid=135) for phase 1& 2 they told me to run it in for the first 4000mls on mineral based oil (GM 10-40, which they provided, car had done 400mls) with an oil change every 1000mls then, at 4000mls drop the mineral oil and use 10-40 semi- syth (GM). The reason stated was that the mineral oil would 'run' the engine in better than semi-syth. Done 14000mls now without any probs. I have a '04 53 plate GSI

well i work for a motor factors and were a comma agent.

Last year it was recommended that i put comma syner-z 5-30 fully in my car (the oil that is used in late bmw engines for longlife servicing)

but this year it says i should be using comma syner-g 5/40 fully in my car.

I asked the comma rep when he was last in and the reason for the changes in grades is to do with the emmisions laws changing every year, so in order for the car to pass, changes in the oils need to be made apparently.
