getting a real horrible smell from me car when putting me foot down which i can only describe as 'eggy'.:confused2:
is this just because i'm making the engine work harder, or is something in need of replacing,
any advice would be great

cheers

It sounds like the CAT which means its on its way out.

Easy way to find out the state of the cat is to go to an MOT testing station and have them check your emissions.

I wouldn't say its normal. How many miles has the car done?

Usually an 'eggy' smell means a duffed cat - maybe time to upgrade to a sports cat?!

how can that be a duff cat they all smell like that when new? It normally means that the cat is creating a little bit too much sulphur dioxide. This can be from an improper air/fuel ratio (duff sensor) or oil or water getting into the exhaust. Quick way to check a cat is to get the engine hot get underneath wrap your hand in a strong rag and give the cat a tap. If it rattles get it changed. The rattle is caused by leaded petrol melting the cat

I have never had a new car smell of eggs. And never followed a new car with the eggy smell!

Tis true Rob, new cars (new cars that I have had and new cars that I have followed) do kick out that farty eggy smell.

I think there is alot of truth to what Jal says TBH.

Laura's Corsa smelled eggy when we replaced the cat and booted it.

Some cars seem to do it some dont.

Wouldnt worry too much about it.

I think your car goes lean a/f. ıt causes something like problems.
