View Full Version : Is this safe - Intercooler Piping

I'm really struggling to get my car sorted for sat, and i still havent got my FMIC piping.

A temporary idea I had, was to use the standard rubber black pipe that usually goes to left side of the intercooler(looking at the car).

Meaning, my FMIC would be fine on the left side(its got the proper pipes) but the right side would use this standard rubber pipe, sort of bodged up infront of the radiator, and then connects to the boost power pipe.

Would this be ok/safe? or would it cause problems. I dont want to kill my car again, but im running out of options.

Cheers

i think if it comes off the car will go into limp mode, like mine did the otherday. ( pipe came off)

well, the way i think it will plumb in, it will be fairly well secured, with a few jubilee clips.

Still unsure what todo, but its looking like ive either got to do the above, or leave my SMIC on.. which may effect the map(regal 3.5)

my sri-t went into that limp mode the other day after a boost hose worked loose on my newley installed courtenay front mount.
Tbh mate id do it properley in the first place, I thought id killed mine the other day.

Aslong as the pipes are secure and not kinked it doesnt matter if its silicon or rubber.

I'd second that.

However, when my boostpipe came off the engine died completely, dash lit up like a xmas tree and i lost power steering and brakes. Scared the shit out of me even though I was only doing 40ish as i had the kids and Mrs in the car.

well, the thing is, i only need it to stay on while it has a road test, then the rolling road

im really running out of time to get a custom pipe made, i can get one done after this weekend, but not before.

Ill put 2 jubilee clips on each end really, to make sure it doesnt come off

whats that thing ive heard about negative boost/boost pipes collapsing?

i would leave the smic on i dont think it would affect anything give regal a ring to check tho. im sure it wont matter i had a smic on with your setup and dbilas manifold cant remember exactly what gains but was over 300bhp

Ahh i see, that definately fills me with more confidence knowing I can leave a working setup on.

I'll ring them first thing tomorrow for advise. I did ask them about the pipework before, but they had none, or dont keep it in stock :s

At the end of the day, from what I can gather, you are just putting a normal boost pipe in another part of the boost part of the system.

I would't be too keen about running it on a rolling road in that state but if you just need it to get around (at a steady pace) then what's the problem?

well, the idea was connecting a bit of rubber boost pipe, to my metal boostpipe, ie:

intercooler - rubber pipe - boost power pipe

but the rubber pipe isnt exactly ideal

and the thing is, it needs to go on the rolling road really after all this, and i dont want it to be running shite, or take chances of it blowing up again, so thought i'd check.

s70con has filled me with the confidence now to just use the SMIC, but will check with regal tomoz

hi mate, the turbo side is ok, ive got the correct pipework for that. its just the other side. If you have a spare few mins, if you could take a pic of the route it takes from intercooler to boost pipe i'd be v.grateful :)
