exhaust noises??

i may be being stupid :red: but wont know unless i ask so ...
after driving my GSi the exhaust makes a funny sound, a bit like a small stone hitting the bottom of the car one after the other,
thought it might just be coz its hot and cooling down (as i do like to put my foot to the floor) but it even does it after a sensible drive.
am i right in thinking its just cooling down:confused: ???

Exhaust get very very hot, even on a slow drive.
It's just the metal contracting as it cools down, every car does it.

mine does this even after short journeys! exactley as you described with the small stones!
