right a couple of days ago on the way to work my car began to overheat it went over 100 and in to the red so i pulled over to check it the water tank was all bubbling up and the water pipes were all expanded and just seemed like there was loads of pressure in the system so i let it cool down and took it home later that day i drove it and the temp was all over the place up and down dropping from 100 to nothing back up again just random really the fans are kicking in so they are working ive checked the oil and water for any mixture as that would be a sign off the head gasket but they are fine i removed the thermostat to let it just run cool but still no different but if i leave the water cap loose it dont over heat as much but the water just evaporates after so long where its getting hot but this does seem to release some pressure i cant think what it would be ?? would this be anything to do with the water pump as i think it sounds a little funny it is a new pump on there about 6000 miles ago but it seems to sound a little like it did before it went last time ?
is there any way to check the head gasket or the water pump?
or just any ideas pleeese ???
Sorry to say but it sounds a bit like a head gasket. Could be between the water jacket and one of the bores, so you wouldn't get the mayonaise - get it back to where you got the water pump done is the best bet!
as a last resort you could flush the system, i doubt it will be dirty as mines a T reg and there was no rust at all when i did mine

ill give that a try flushing it out ... is there any way of testing what it might be or dignosin the problem ?
sounds like you just have air in the system. start your car up with the coolant cap off(fill the bottle up to the cap). as it heats up, the water will start to raise. in doing this you will see it bubble/pop etc. let the water overflow until there isnt much bubbles. put the cap on and let the car cool down. you should then be able to top up the water to the right level.
this should clear any air in the system.

quick test is with the tool to check for CO2 in the water system. Haven't got a clue what it's called just know what it is cos I pinched one from the VX garage I used to work at :)

just had flushed the system out and filled it back up but still the same one thing i did notice after watching the tank is that no water is coming back in to the tank through the either of the two pipes on the top im sure its suppossed to recirculate isnt it????
Yes, which means it is going somewhere. Basically you will either have a puddle under the car, a puddle inside the car or the water is going into the combustion chamber.
Get to a garage and ask for the co2 in the coolant test thingy! (Not sure of its proper name...) Sounds like headgasket to me. :(

Take the spark plugs out one at a time and turn the engine over to see if you get coolant coming out of the cylinders.

i took the thermostat out so its running through it.. no puddle underneath but water pump sounds noisy and the engine is running fine and no white smoke coming out the back or nothing just over heating ??

great news wasnt the head gasket really didnt think it was i fort i would change the water pump as it was noisy and would need relacing needless so i took it out and the propeler had snapped in half and wasnt cuirculaiting the water through the system so was causing it to overheat and make a noise so im well happy with that but not happy about the pump i removed as its only done about 3000 miles but it seems it wasnt a genuine part so hope this one is ok now.
